Dragging Icons & Static Links (Windows 95/98/NT)
Try dragging any of your icons onto a new WordPad Doc and watch what happens. Try it with the My Computer icon, and you'll see that you can launch My Computer from your WordPad document by simply double-clicking it.
Problem Free Printing (Windows95)
On the Windows 95 installation CD-ROM browse to the d:\other\misc\epts folder (substitute d: for your CD-ROM drive). Double-clicking on the EPTS.EXE program will load up the Printer troubleshooting program that will help you solve almost all of your printer problems. Follow the instructions and you'll be in for problem free printing.
Back In Time (Netscape 4.X)
You can quickly set how far back Netscape will save your history. Choose Edit then Preferences. Click Navigator, then set the number of days you prefer beside 'Pages in History will expire after:' When finished click OK. Setting these options will ensure that your file doesn’t get too large.
De-Hassled Installation (All Windows OS's)
If you're the type of person who often formats when installing Windows, then you should make a separate partition only for your Windows system files. Make the C drive, a relatively small partition - 200 MEGS and install only Windows and perhaps a backup directory. You can install all other programs and files to another partition/drive. This way if you ever need to reinstall windows all you have to do is format c: or deltree c:, and reinstall to the C drive with little hassle. After installing replace with your backup copies of the Registry, USER.DAT, and SYSTEM.DAT files. Reboot your system, and TADA! Your system is back up with no messy transferring of files and you still have all your software settings.
It's Up To You (WordPerfect Suite 8)
When working in a WordPerfect Suite 8 application, the last folder you worked in becomes your default folder. You can change this and have the first folder you worked in the default folder. To do this, click on the Edit menu of the application and disable the Change Default Folder option.
Programmed for Cancellation (Windows 95/98/NT)
So, you've been waiting for that program to load for too long? Has the mouse cursor been looking like an hour glass for too long? It might be frozen. No fear, CTRL+ALT+DELETE is here. Press the 3 keys together (only once) select the sluggish program, and hit the End task button to close the program and return to Windows.
Sysedit (Windows 95/98/NT)
Sysedit is a wonderful tool that you can use to help make sure that all your system files are in check. Goto Start/Run, type SYSEDIT and press Enter. This will load the System Configuration Editor and will allow you to edit the following files: PROTOCOL.INI, SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI, CONFIG.SYS, and AUTOEXEC.BAT. If you're not sure about what you're doing, don't do it!
Load up the Non--default Way (Windows 95/98/NT)
If you want to load an Internet site using the non default browser, try this. Goto Start/Run, and type the file name of the browser and the address of the website. For example, type Iexplore.exe and any the web site address. Press Enter and the website will appear before your eyes in the browser you specified.
Record It! (WordPerfect Suite 8)
Save yourself some time by creating macros for frequently repeated tasks. Click Tools from the Start menu and then click on Corel PerfectScript. Open up the application you are creating the macro for. Click on the Corel Perfect Script taskbar button and the PerfectScript dialog box will appear. From the File menu, click Record to open the Record Macro box. Name your Macro. Switch back to PerfectScript and click the Stop button when you've finished executing the steps you want recorded. Next time you want to execute these steps, just run the Macro.
